Check this out. This is ridiculous. I would want people to refer to my website like this. To me, it means that people are referring to Google as the place to go to search for things.

To google or not to google? It's a legal question

Search engine's sense of humour crashes as it fires off warning letters over use of name as a verb

that sucks & is kind of pointless on google's part. just last month i read that the word people are putting 'google' into the dictionary as a word...

Yeah, in June Google was added to the Oxford English Dictionary, and last month Merriam-Webster's Collegiate Dictionary added google, as in 'to google', to thier dictionary.

yeah, see... i knew i wasn't making things up. so it looks like the Google guys are like me... a day late & a dollar short.

but i guess i do see their point of view. Google is a brand name. they want to be associated with THEIR website. i guess they might not want google to be used interchangebly with the word 'find' i.e. i need to find/google my briefcase. it might not happen now & does seem kind of silly, but it could happen... like Kleenex. they're a brand, but when people sneeze they don't say 'oh! i need a facial tissue!" they say "gah dammah! i need a Kleenex!" :)

Yeah, I see the point. Some day, years from now, I know people will probably use google like that. However, these days, when someone says go google that they mean to look something up on the net and what better way to get into someone's head to use google than to make it part of the sentence.
