Reborn - Ambien awakens persistent vegetative state victims
We have always been told there is no recovery from persistent vegetative state - doctors can only make a sufferer's last days as painless as possible. But is that really the truth? Across three continents, severely brain-damaged patients are awake and talking after taking ... a sleeping pill. And no one is more baffled than the GP who made the breakthrough. Steve Boggan witnesses these 'strange and wonderful' rebirths

Now, what about the people that have recently pulled the plug on loved ones in this state?
What about the family members that were against pulling the plug, can they now sue the other family members?

When my daughter Morgaine had her stroke I met a lot of children with that condition .i wish now that I could send their parents to the web site and give them some hope .

Yes, I think everyone should know about this. There really is no harm in doctors prescribing a sedative like ambien for a PVS patient, and it works in at least 60% of those they have tried.

for some reason hadn't seen this article and i frequently use the Guardian and the medical related sections.

thank you, have printed out the article and will further research. There are many different times you would chose a drug that will cause the same symptoms being experienced. It sometimes acts to cancel the effect

eg. if a sensory nerve has been severed and leaves a particular area numb, you can sometimes inject the area with a local anesthetic like novacaine and the area will feel normal for as long as the medication is active.

I friended you because your posts mesh with so many of my interests.
Played/posted at your collage entry.

Re: Ambien

I friended you back. Now that I have friended you, you can see my friends only posts, mostly are pretty mundane, daily things.

I try to stay up to date on the latest computer and medical discoveries and post what I think is most interesting.

It's always amazing all the off-label uses of existing medications.
