My First Moonbow
Saw my first Moonbow tonight, and they are actually really hard to see in downtown Chicago.

Not that there is much quality to it, with my crummy ole' digital camera, but I at least got part of it. It's in the rectangle. I could also see another part of it below the moon too, but that was much fainter.

Here's what a good one looks like (Not mine):

Yeah, I didn't know either. But I suppose it's a matter of any light source reflecting off water in the air causing something like that.

Having spent most of my adult life in northern/rural locations, I have seen that before but don't believe I've ever knew there was a specific name for the phenomena.

Thank you. It is really beautiful and when in an isolated area quite haunting.

according to old wives tales and such, that usually happens before it rains...

Wow, that is pretty good, I didn't know you could ever be able to see one out there.

I have seen this a few times, always beautiful. I remember one time in particular...

I was sitting outside by a bonfire my dad made in the backyard. We were roasting hot dogs :-) In the diameter in the circle there were 2 stars... my dad told us that it meant to some people ( i forgot who) that it would (rain? snow?) "something" for as many days as there were stars in the moon circle.

It was a cool story anyway, too bad I totally forgot it.
